Assets and Works

Glenelg Shire Council is the responsible authority for approximately:

  • 971 km of sealed rural local roads
  • 1408 km of rural gravel surfaced roads
  • 154 km of sealed urban road
  • 44 km of unsealed urban roads

Therefore, we have a total of 2577 km of local roads, which must be maintained to a safe and trafficable condition for the public. Approximately 180 bridges and major culverts on these local roads are also maintained by us.

As well as road assets, we also maintain an extensive network of concrete, paved and asphalted footpaths and bicycle paths.

The management of roads and infrastructure in the Glenelg Shire is undertaken jointly by the Assets Department and Glenelg Shire Council Assets & Works Unit.
