Author Event - Shelley Husband - Granny Square Flair - Portland Library
Wednesday, August 8, 2018
5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Author Event - Shelley Husband - Granny Square Flair - Portland Library
Join us for a very special Author Event with local crochet designer and teacher Shelley Husband as she launches her beautiful new book Granny Square Flair.

Granny Square Flair was born from Shelley’s joyful exploration of yarn. She loves nothing more than sitting down with some yarn and my hook to design new granny squares and has gathered fifty of her original designs in this book, taking the humble granny square in exciting new directions.

Shelley has crafted most of her life, trying “all of the crafts” over the years. These days, having discovered a natural knack for crochet about six years ago after a break of a few decades, she spends most of her time with a crochet hook in hand.

When not designing crochet, you can find Shelley teaching crochet in workshops around Victoria and beyond. For those who can’t make a workshop in person, she teaches worldwide via her annual Crochet-A-Long projects through her blog and YouTube channel.

Author Event - Robyn Neilsen - Ricochet - Portland Library
Wednesday, August 22, 2018
5:00 PM - 6:30 PM
Author Event - Robyn Neilsen, Ricochet - Portland Library
Come and join former local Robyn Neilsen, as she launches her first novel Ricochet.

You could say that the reading of Robyn Davidson’s ‘Tracks’ changed Robyn’s life forever. Up until then she had raised her daughters in Gippsland, completed two Visual Arts degrees, run several 3 Bays Marathons, and spent a bit of time out in the bush or out on the Discovery Bay clifftops whenever she could. But turning forty sent Robyn on a mission. She would ride to Perth on a cheap mountain bike with a sleeping bag and no high-tech gear or knowledge whatsoever.

This book is written as a result of a fateful encounter along the way and the gift of the unexpected that saw Robyn dashing between a derelict hut in the south of France and her home in Australia.

Ricochet is essentially a contemplation of the small miracles and disappointments and the joys and betrayals that we experience each day.
