Glenelg Shire Council is the responsible authority for approximately 971km of sealed rural local roads, 1408km of rural gravel surfaced roads, 154km of sealed urban road and 44km of unsealed urban roads. Therefore, Glenelg Shire has a total of 2577km of local roads, which must be maintained to a safe and trafficable condition for the public. Approximately 180 bridges and major culverts on these local roads are also maintained by Council.
As well as road assets, Council also maintains an extensive network of concrete, paved and asphalted footpaths and bicycle paths in its townships.
The management of roads and infrastructure in the Glenelg Shire is undertaken jointly by the Assets Department and Glenelg Shire Council Assets & Works Unit.
