MEDIA RELEASE - Round two of Community Grants Program open

7 February 2017

Applications for round two of council’s 2016-2017 Community Grants Program are officially open to individuals and groups in the Glenelg Shire.

The Community Grants Program is designed to assist programs and projects within the region that are in the public interest, provide a clear community benefit and are environmentally friendly and sustainable.

The major categories include recreation, public halls, tourism, arts culture and heritage, community support and community plan support.

Glenelg Shire Council Mayor Cr Anita Rank said that Council prided itself on offering the Community Grants initiative and were continually impressed with the calibre of applications.

“This financial year Council has allocated approximately $162,000 to distribute to community groups through the Community Grant Program,” she said.

“As a council we are very proud of the program and the way in which it encourages and supports the broad range of events and programs that we have on offer in the shire.”

“It is also fantastic to see so many high quality applications coming through. In the previous round funding round we approved grants for almost 40 community groups and non-for-profit organisations, and I look forward to approving even more grants this funding round.”

Applications close 5pm on Monday, 27 February 2017 and can be completed and submitted online at

Potential applicants are reminded to refer to the Community Grants Guidelines (Round 2) 2016-2017 to assess their eligibility to apply. All organisations and groups are strongly encouraged to discuss their projects with the relevant council officer prior to submitting their application.
