Cr Alistair McDonald was elected to Council in October 2016.
Cr McDonald has resided in Portland for 62 years, having been educated at Portland Primary School and later at Portland High School. Born in Scotland his family emigrated when he was five. Cr McDonald, his wife Lisa and son Hamish (16) reside on a beautiful native bush block just a short drive from Portland. Together they own and operate Portland Fishmarket, having gained a genuine passion for small business as a proprietor of Hags' Health Foods in the 1970s.
Cr McDonald's working life has been peppered with a variety of occupations, providing unique opportunities to meet people from all walks of life, gaining respect for our growing culturally diverse community. Cr McDonald has always had an interest in community, volunteering his time to serve on the Three Bays Marathon Committee, having been honoured to receive Life Membership with the Portland Runners Club in 2013. He is a foundation member and actively involved in the Henty Food Producers Group and the Point Danger Management Committee.
For Cr McDonald, relaxing is renovating the old Uniting Church at Bridgewater Bay and sharing the odd coffee or two with friends at a local café.
Cr McDonald is passionate about making our shire an even better place to live; working together with his fellow Councillors, Glenelg Shire staff, business and community to strengthen the region, creating positive outcomes and encouraging greater investment in Commerce and Industry.
