| General Recycling | | The separation of recyclable materials from the general waste stream is an important part of EcoRecycle Victoria's Towards Zero Waste Strategy.
Glenelg Shire provides a kerbside recyclable materials collection service along with its kerbside garbage collection service. The townships of Portland, Heywood, Casterton, Merino and Sandford receive this service. Details can be found on the Waste and Recyclables Collection Service page (see link above).
The waste management facilities (landfills and transfer stations) at Portland, Heywood, Merino and Casterton also offer facilities for the drop-off of recyclable materials.
Recyclable materials that are accepted free of charge are: - Unbroken glass bottles and jars - Steel and aluminium cans - Plastic bottles and containers (type 1 to 7) - Steel and other scrap metal - Cardboard and Paper - Soft Plastics (ie clean paperbags and gladwrap) Note: Commercial quantities of recyclables (>1m3) are not accepted at landfills.
Do not package recyclables into plastic bags - place all items into your recycle bin separately.
All recyclable materials collected are transported to Green Triangle Recyclers facility in Portland for further separation and packaging prior to sale to material processors.
Materials NOT suitable for recycling are: - Syringes and Needles - Nappies - Broken glass, crockery, mirrors - Polystyrene (foam) - Pillows/mattresses - Waxed cardboard - Food Waste and Garden Clippings - General Household Waste
