GSC Youth Charter: Engage, Empower and Value

The Glenelg Shire Council's Youth Charter was developed to provide a ‘whole of Council’ approach for engaging with young people and promoting their participation in Council planning, service delivery and decision making.

A Youth Audit was undertaken to ensure that the Youth Charter contained meaningful and achievable outcomes for both the Glenelg Shire Council as an organisation and our young people. Information was collected via a survey and focus group sessions during departmental meetings. Additionally, a desktop audit of Councils Plans and Strategies was also undertaken to develop an understanding of the level of involvement young people had in their development.

The results from the Youth Audit, the Voices and Choices Project and focus group sessions with the Glenelg Shire Council's Youth Advisory Group (YAG) have underpinned the development of the Youth Charter.
