Australia Day

Australia Day girls

Australia Day, January 26, is observed as a public holiday in all states and territories.

There are so many great things about our country; the people, the land, our diversity, our indigenous cultures, our freedom and democracy and our enduring spirit of mateship and fairness.

That is why the Glenelg Shire helps you to recognise this day by hosting Australia Day Celebrations in Casterton and Portland. Council also supports community organised activities in Heywood, Merino and Nelson.

Portland

Due to current COVID restrictions, a small civic event will be held for Australia Day in Portland at the Civic Hall from 8am - 10am (breakfast included).

The event will include the official presentations of the Glenelg Shire Australia Day Award winners, including Citizen of the Year.

Community members will still be able to view the presentations, with the event recorded and streamed to the Glenelg Shire Facebook and YouTube channels shortly after.

Due to current COVID restrictions, this event is strictly capped at an attendance capacity.
There are a limited number of general seating tickets are available. If you wish to attend, you must register your interest prior by contacting our Events Unit.
