MEDIA RELEASE - Shape the future of your local library

14 July 2017

Yvette Parker

Glenelg Libraries is designing a library of the future and it needs your help.

The Portland Library is preparing for a $400,000 redevelopment to meet the current and future needs of users and local input is required to help design the new interactive space.

Expressions of interest are now open for the Portland Library Redevelopment Design Working Group.

Library and Information Services Manager Yvette Parker said the group would be instrumental in shaping the future layout of the library.

“This working group will meet three to six times over the next six months to discuss a whole range of elements such as floor plans, furniture and technology requirements,” she said.

“I hope to gather people from all walks of life, from new mums and teens to retirees, to ensure that all users of the library are involved and have their say in the design process.

“The library is a core space for the community and there is no one better equipped to make judgement on how the building should and could be used than the users themselves.

“The Glenelg Libraries team look forward to creating a vision for the future use of the library with the help of our valued members.”

The redevelopment is jointly funded by the Glenelg Shire Council and Victorian Government.
