MEDIA RELEASE - Have your say on a changing places facility for Portland

Glenelg Shire Council is seeking input into the proposed inclusion of a Changing Place as part of the redevelopment of the Portland Foreshore.

A Changing Places facility is for people with disabilities who have high support needs and requires the assistance of another person to meet their toileting needs.

The proposed spaces are larger than standard accessible toilets, and have extra features with more space to meet the needs of people with a disability and their carer.

Each facility has a height adjustable, adult-sized changing bench, a tracking hoist system, space for two people and a safer and cleaner environment.

Council are committed to attracting investment from State Government to undertake these redevelopment works and needs your assistance to demonstrate an identified need from for a Changing Places facility in their locality and support the project.

Glenelg Shire Council Mayor Cr Anita Rank said council is dedicated to providing dignified equitable access to facilities to people of all abilities.

β€œIn alignment with the newly adopted Council Plan we aim to promote a welcoming, caring and participative community by improving the accessibility of local facilities such as the Portland foreshore play space,” Cr Rank said.

Targeted consultation with key stakeholders has commenced and all interested community members are invited to attend the following access focused drop in sessions.

- On site walk through session: Portland Foreshore (near existing playground) – 5.15pm to 6pm

Tuesday 26 September 2017

- Glenelg Shire Council Customer Service Centre - Cliff Street, Portland -12pm to 2pm
