MEDIA RELEASE - Swashbuckling adventure sails in this February

9 February 2018

A modern spin on a classic Gilbert & Sullivan musical is set to entertain families this February as part of an upcoming performance from the Arts Glenelg 2018 season program.

Promac Productions’ Pirates of Penzance will visit both the Casterton Town Hall and the Portland Arts Centre from Thursday 22 February to Friday 23 February, with the show making its final Australian tour.

Glenelg Shire arts and culture manager Susie Lyons said it would be a night of quality swashbuckling entertainment for families.

“Glenelg Shire audiences have loved Promac Productions Gilbert and Sullivan shows for many years and this new imagining of this classic musical is a must see, especially for families,” she said.

“The show will feature all of the classic hit songs that audiences know and love, such as The Modern Major General, I am The Pirate King and of course the stunning Poor Wandering One.

“With a full set of music, costumes and clashing swords, Pirates of Penzance is a fun music comedy with a contemporary twist and is sure to delight all ages.”

Ms Lyons encouraged the Glenelg Shire community to make the most of the show’s farewell tour as the cast performs for the very final time in Australia.

“The show, which will be performed at various family friendly times in both Casterton and Portland, is a great opportunity to get together with your friends and family to enjoy some shamelessly fabulous entertainment,” she said.

“Pirates of Penzance will also feature some of the nation’s most seasoned performers, including Australian music theatre star Philip Gould, and has received rave reviews from media outlets across the country.

“So say hello and goodbye to the pirates at either the Casterton Town Hall or the Portland Arts Centre as they sail off into the sunset, but not before providing the family with a great time in the theatre.”

Pirates of Penzance will be performed at the Casterton Town Hall on Friday 23 February at 7:30pm.

Pirates of Penzance will also be performed at the Portland Arts Centre on Thursday 22 February and Friday 23 February, with both evening and morning time slots on offer.

Tickets to all Pirates of Penzance performances are available online via www.portlandartscentre.com.au or by contacting the Portland Arts Centre directly on 5522 2263.
