MEDIA RELEASE - Nominate a young leader for the Western Bulldogs Leadership Project

9 February 2018

If you know a young person who wants to contribute to their local community, now is your chance to nominate them to be a part of a dynamic youth program.

Nominations are now open for the Western Bulldogs Leadership Project, an education program which provides opportunities for years nine and ten students in the Glenelg Shire to grow as leaders in their community.

Established by the Western Bulldogs Football Club in 2013, the program, which was formerly known as the Whitten Project, enables young people to learn from respected industry leaders, build capacities in leadership, teamwork and communication and make new friends.

The state-wide program is currently implemented across 13 local government areas, including metropolitan and regional communities.

Previous program participant Courtney Ball was quick to encourage fellow youth to apply.

“I have walked away from the Western Bulldogs Leadership Project with a lifetime of skills and knowledge, it is definitely a program that sets you up for the future,” she said.

“The skills you get out of the program are invaluable, I learnt more about myself and my leadership potential during the six month period than I ever had before.

“I would 100 per cent recommend the program to others, it takes commitment but it is worth the time. You just need to be willing to challenge yourself and eager to learn.”

The Western Bulldogs Project is free and participants will be supported throughout the delivery of the project by the Glenelg Shire Council’s Youth Development team over the six month period.

This is the fifth year that Glenelg Shire will be participating in the popular program, with over 70 nominations received for last year.

Interested individuals are encouraged to self-nominate or to ask a school teacher, sport or community club member, or council staff member to assist.

Nominations close Friday 23 February 2018.
