Welcome to the Glenelg Shire Council

MEDIA RELEASE - Great progress reported on council plan

31 July 2018

“Great progress” was the key message from the fourth quarter report of the Glenelg Shire Council Plan 2017-2021 with key highlights including completion of capital works projects, delivery of community plans and securing of government funds for key priority projects.

Council CEO Greg Burgoyne said the opening of the Australian Kelpie Centre in Casterton and launch of council’s Health and Well-being Plan were key highlights from the period.

Furthermore, the launch of Casterton’s Destination Action Plan, which provides a tourism marketing plan for the township in partnership with Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism, provided a new tourism for the town, while the completion of the planning scheme review provided greater transparency for development.

Mr Burgoyne said he was also pleased that council’s trainee program, which included two additional trainees in 2018, had been expanded to provide career pathways for the shire’s emerging young leaders.

“The list of achievements is testament to the hard work and effective collaboration between the community, councillors, staff, local businesses and government stakeholders,” Mr Burgoyne said.

“Council looks forward to maintaining the momentum we have established, ensuring we continue to deliver on the identified actions in the Council Plan and create further opportunities for enhanced investment, business growth and liveability.”

He continued that council would continue to advocate for key local issues with all tiers of government.

“We will continue to actively lobby at both State and Federal levels to secure the necessary capital that will enhance our ability to deliver key projects and initiatives, such as the Bridgewater Bay Master Plan and the Portland Foreshore Master Plan,” Mr Burgoyne said.

“These projects will provide significant economic and social contributions to the region and ensure our shire can reach its full recreation and tourism potential.

“We thank all of those who participated and contributed to build a better Glenelg Shire and we look forward to continuing this journey together.”
