MEDIA RELEASE - Tell your story with help from Glenelg Libraries

13 March 2019

Learn the skills to share your stories at Portland Library this month at a life story writing workshop.

Popular facilitator Graeme Gibson from More Than Just Talk is hosting a three hour workshop focused on creative non-fiction writing at the Portland Library from 10am on Saturday 30 March.

“Stories are how we make sense of our lives,” Mr Gibson said.

“I look forward to assisting others to learn the skills and confidence on how to share their stories at this practical workshop. Non-fiction writing is suitable for almost any area of interest including memoir, family history, local history, personal essay, travel diary, and feature articles.”

Drawing on his background in adult learning and community development, Mr Gibson has been hosting writing workshops for more than a decade assisting people to build the skills and confidence to build a storyline.

He has contributed to a number of short story collections, published essays and feature articles and self-published the non-fiction book Beyond Fear and Loathing: Local politics at work.

Mr Gibson said the workshop was suitable for both beginners and more experienced writers.

“Bring pen and paper and some ideas you would like to write about, or just come along and see what unfolds,” he said, “the opportunities are endless, it’s a case of where your mind and memories take you”.

Registrations for the workshop, which runs from 10am to 1pm on Saturday 30 March, are required.

The workshop is $10 per person and includes light refreshments. Secure your place by contacting Portland Library on 5522 2265.
