MEDIA RELEASE - Grab your ticket for the gala

1 July 2019

The countdown is on to unveil the Glenelg Shire Business of the Year.

Tickets are now on sale for 2019 Glenelg Shire Business and Tourism Gala Awards Night, held at the Portland Golf Club on Friday 2 August from 6pm.

The event will be headlined by internationally award-winning magician and comedian Dom Chambers, best known for his modern take on magic and artistic live performances.

Chambers’ videos have made him a viral internet sensation, with more than 20 million views, and his critically acclaimed one-man show RanDom receiving the title of ‘Best Magic Show’ at this year’s Adelaide Fringe Festival. He was also the first Australian based magician to appear on the hit international television series, Penn & Teller: Fool Us!

Most recently, Chambers has been experiencing further international success, progressing through to the second round of NBC’s juggernaut reality show America’s Got Talent. The magician’s performance earned a standing ovation from all four judges and the audience, reaching more than 9.8 million American households.

Chambers’ America’s Got Talent journey will be aired across NBC and online streaming services as season 14 of the hit show continues.

Chambers will perform alongside musician and acoustic act Jason Bull on the evening where the region’s best businesses and tourism operators will be rewarded for their hard work.

“The Gala Awards Night is an opportunity to come together and recognise and applaud our talented local businesses and tourism operators,” said Mayor Cr Anita Rank.

“The evening will see 10 businesses and two individuals acknowledged for their contributions to the local business sector, as well as the announcement of the overall award winner for the coveted title of 2019 Business of the Year.

“There will be plenty of reasons to celebrate our thriving local business and tourism sector and with the 2017 Gala a sold out event, I urge individuals to secure their seat fast to avoid disappointment.”

Ensuring the festivities run smoothly will be actor, writer and comedian and former Portland local Jackson Tozer, who will bring his high energy and sharp wit to the stage as the evening’s MC.

Tozer is best recognised for his portrayal of bodyguard Myles in the popular ABC comedy The Ex PM, as well as for his most recent roles on Channel 10 debut television programs Five Bedrooms and Mr Black.

Tozer is also a regular on Channel 7’s breakout comedy series Rostered On.

Tickets for the gala dinner are available online through Eventbrite at $60 per person. This includes pre-dinner entertainment, a three course meal from 2017 Business of the Year Clock by the Bay, and drinks throughout the evening.
