MEDIA RELEASE - Funky Chicken flies to Glenelg Libraries

10 January 2020

Calling all families, Funky Chicken has flown the coop and he is coming to the Glenelg Libraries to read you his latest story.

Bestselling Australian author and presenter Chris Collin, creator of the popular ‘Funky Chicken’ book series, will visit the Portland Library on 23 January 2020 from 5:30pm for a once off funky pyjama themed storytime session.

The ‘Funky Chicken’ series follows a friendly feathered hero whose mission it is to make the world a happier, funkier place. His adventures find him in space, tropical rainforests and the Australian wilderness.

Library and Information Services Manager Yvette Parker said the event would live up to its funky name, with plenty of fun entertainment and activities on offer.

“There won’t be a dull moment for this special storytime session, with story-telling, puppets, singing and dancing and more planned for the hour long event. Chris is a seasoned presenter and will ensure there will be endless laughter,” she said.

“Families are encouraged to make the most of the theme and come along in their brightest or craziest pyjama set, the funkier the better to impress Funky Chicken himself.”

Ms Parker confirmed that there was no age limit for the event, with all ages and reading levels welcome.

“Funky Chicken is designed to be enjoyed by children from preschool age right through to senior primary level,” she said.

Chris Collin is an award-winning author and publisher of whacky, rhyming Australian children’s books. He has published four children’s titles which have been listed in the Permier’s Reading Challenge including Funky Chicken A Bushy Tale of Crocs and Chooks, A Bug Called Doug and Funky Chicken Mission InCROCible!

His third book Funky Chicken: Chooks in Space won the 2016 Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Award.

For further information and to secure your place for the event please contact the Glenelg Libraries on 5522 2265. Copies of the ‘Funky Chicken’ series will be available for purchase on the evening.
