Winter Whale Competition

Winter is the perfect time to spot a whale, and Portland is a hub of activity for these beautiful creatures.

Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism is hosting a unique competition this Winter, whereby by simply spotting a whale you can go in the draw to win a luxury weekend for two, staying at the Cape Nelson Lighthouse.
Includes a four-course degustation at Clock by the Bay and the right to name a Southern Right Whale.

The Competition

Log a whale sighting before Sunday, August 16th for a chance to name a Southern Right Whale and return to Portland for a luxury weekend for two people.

The Prize

Thanks to DELWP, one lucky whale watcher will get the opportunity to name whale 190719.
This whale is part of the Southern Right Whale Photo Identification Project with it's last confirmed sighting at the Portland Breakwater on July 19th last year.

It is a sub-adult and has interesting white blazes on its belly and under its chin

The winner will also receive:
* 2 nights accommodation at the Cape Nelson Lighthouse - An unique location where whales are often spotted and Deluxe Accommodation Bronze winner at the 2019 Victorian Tourism Awards.

* Four Course degustation for two at Clock By The Bay

How to Enter

To enter you must log a whale sighting in Portland by August 16th.

To log a whale sighting, please visit the Whale Watching in Portland page of the Great Ocean Road website and fill out the form on the bottom of the page.

Terms and Conditions

* Whale sightings must be submitted via the sighting log on the I AM PORTLAND website, approved and in the Portland area (The approval process ensures the legitimacy of sightings)

* Accommodation and Dining must be redeemed directly with the operators, subject to availability, and take place before October 30th, 2020.

* The Southern Right Whale Photo Identification Project team must approve the chosen whale name (comical or explicit names will not be accepted)

* The winner will be notified by email within a week of the end of the competition. The winner will need to respond and confirm within 7 days, otherwise, the prize will be redrawn

* The winner will be selected randomly from all approved whale sighting that occurs between July 5 and August 16, 2020. You can enter more than once however multiple sighting in a short time frame by the same person at the same location will not be accepted.
