MEDIA RELEASE - Celebrate Christmas Eve on the Portland Foreshore

20 December 2017

The Portland Foreshore is the place to be this Christmas Eve to celebrate the exciting hours before Christmas.

A traditional favourite, the free community event will provide a night of Christmas music, food and laughter against the stunning backdrop of the Portland harbour from 5:30pm to 9pm.

Hosted by council, this year’s event will be headlined by Little Big Band, playing swing style Christmas carols by talented local musicians.

Glenelg Shire Council Mayor Cr Anita Rank said last year’s popular event attracted more than 2000 people.

“Get settled for a night of live music, with a variety of musical acts singing your favourite Christmas classics and their own unique spin on some favourite festive songs,” Cr Rank said.

“The event will also see local bands Since Tuesday and The Acoustic Trio on stage entertaining residents to welcome Christmas in true Portland style.

Cr Rank said the local talent didn’t end with the performers.

“A range of delicious foods will be on offer from local food vans on the night, including Little Black Sow, Southern Ranges Catering, Treloar’s Fish and Chips and family favourite, the Lions barbecue,” she said.

Children will be entertained all night long with an array of giant inflatables run by Barr’s Amusements, including the big slide and a chair-o-plane plus face painting.

“A crowd favourite amongst the children is always the face painting, which will be free of charge,” Cr Rank said.

“Best of all, the jolly red man will be making a special appearance on the night to spread the festive cheer with families.

“Santa Clause will arrive in fashion on a red fire truck, ready to make one final appearance before setting off to begin his Christmas deliveries throughout the shire,” she said.
