MEDIA RELEASE - Store cattle sale to kick off summer selling season

11 December 2017

The Casterton Saleyards are gearing up another busy season of livestock sales, with the first of three summer meetings to be held at the facility this week.

The Casterton Saleyards Joint Agents Weaner and Store Cattle Sale will take place on Thursday 14 December, offering farmers a chance to capitalise on the summer sale season.

Casterton Saleyards Operations Manager Jason Gorman said he was anticipating strong sale prices this week.

“This Thursday will no doubt see some high sale prices recorded with farmers eager to make the most of the quick cash opportunity before the rush of the Christmas deadline,” he said.

“It’s the busiest time of the year for the saleyards and we are expecting thousands of cattle to come through the facility in the next two months. The saleyards will be a hub of activity this summer.”

Mr Gorman said he was expecting the number of sales this summer to top that of previous record sales.

“Last financial year sales figures at the facility amassed to an incredible total of $12 million, proving that Casterton continues to be a venue of choice for the region’s farmers for buying and selling livestock,” he said.

“This year is shaping up to be another strong season based on previous selling figures and the high quality of stock. I look forward to seeing what the outcomes will be of Thursday’s sales and the meetings to come, we could surpass all previous records.”

The Casterton Saleyards Joint Agents Weaner and Store Cattle Sale will take place from 9am at Saleyards Rd Casterton.

All interested members of the general public are welcome to attend.
