MEDIA RELEASE - Find yourself in your local library this May

14 May 2018

Community members in the Glenelg Shire are being invited to ‘find themselves’ at their local library this May as part of a bumper program celebrating 2018 Library and Information Week.

The Glenelg Libraries plans to deliver the most spectacular program yet, offering 10 free community events, ranging from tai chi to special storytime sessions, during 21 – 27 May.

Library and information services manager Yvette Parker said all events were inspired by this year’s theme ‘find yourself in a library'.

“We’ve pulled no stops with Library and Information Week in 2018, offering an extensive range of events and activities, to ensure all community members can join in our celebrations,” she said.

“One of the highlights for this year is a competition just for the adults. Library members who borrow any item from the mind, body & spirit, recreation, home, cooking or travel sections can automatically go in the running to win a special ‘Find Yourself Travel Pack’.

“With a Travel Pack up for grabs at each Glenelg Libraries branch, I encourage community members to help celebrate Library and Information Week by borrowing an item and finding themselves in their local library.”

This year’s Library and Information Week program includes:
- Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser
- Come and Try Tai Chi with Brenda’s Functional Fitness
- What I Know About – Owner Building session with Maya and Jason Eats
- National Simultaneous Storytime events in Portland and Casterton

For a full list of events please visit the Glenelg Libraries website or Facebook page.

Library and Information Week is organised annually by the Australian Library and Information Association to promote the value of reading and literacy, the importance of Australia's book industry and the role of libraries.
