MEDIA RELEASE - ASTA to headline Hooked on Portland

7 January 2019

Australian singer-songwriter ASTA will headline a list of premier live entertainment as part of the free Hooked on Portland festival this January long weekend.

ASTA will perform alongside a line-up of local musicians and international touring acts at Hooked on Portland, which will be held at the Portland Foreshore over 26 and 27 January.

Glenelg Shire Council Mayor Cr Anita Rank said ASTA’s international success would lure crowds from far and wide.

“We are thrilled to welcome someone of such high calibre to the main stage at the Hooked on Portland festival this January long weekend,” she said.

”ASTA has performed with some of the biggest names in international music such as Ellie Goulding and rapper All Day and will bring an exciting blend of contemporary and pop music to wow the crowd.
“ASTA first rose to prominence in 2012 when her track "My Heart Is On Fire" won Triple J's Unearthed High in 2012 and since then she has performed at music festivals across the globe and released her debut EP Shine, which has been streamed more than 1.3 million times.”

ASTA will be supported by Australian groove based blue-billy-grass-rockin'-roots band 19-Twenty, who are performing as part of their national tour.

Live performances from Josh Rawiri, The New Savages, Wallace and Ben Walker will also take place throughout Saturday afternoon and evening.

Cr Rank said the two-day festival will also draw on a variety of local talent, showcasing local musicians Gav Riddell, Jason Bull and Cover Story on Sunday, 27 January.

“There really is something for everyone at the Hooked on Portland Festival in the lead-up to ASTA’s performance, with market stalls, skateboarding come and try sessions, circus performances and workshops and cooking demonstrations with television chef Paul West,” she said.

“With free entertainment that will delight the whole family, all roads lead to Portland this January long weekend.”
