MEDIA RELEASE - Get Rollin with Hooked on Portland

Head down to the Portland Skate Park this January long weekend and compete in a skate, scooter, or BMX competition as part of the free Hooked on Portland festival.

Hosted by the Skate Park League and various event partners, the competitions are focused on embracing skate park culture and are open to all ages, with categories for participants 14 and under and 15 and over.

All competition heats will be held at the Skate Park, with the scooter competition commencing at 11am, BMX at 12:30pm and concluding with the skateboarding at 1:30pm.

Glenelg Shire Council Mayor Cr Anita Rank said competitors would also go in the draw to win raffled prizes, ensuring everyone had a chance to win on the day.

“For those who don’t feel confident enough to enter the skating competition, there are also skateboarding come and try sessions to help you develop your skills and techniques,” she said

“There really is something for everyone at the Hooked on Portland Festival with laser tag, sporting activities and clinics and art sessions running throughout the day.

“The youth zone will also be more than just skates, with live entertainment running from 11am-7pm from talented local DJ’s Shaun King, DJ Legion, Chegz and DJ Fairweather.

“With free entertainment that will delight the whole family, all roads lead to Portland this January long weekend.”
