MEDIA RELEASE - From trainee to admin professional of the year

3 May 2019

One of the Glenelg Shire Council’s emerging leaders was recognised for her diligence and positive approach to work, receiving an award in acknowledgment of her administration skills.

Claire Charman was announced as the recipient of the Emerging Administrative Professional of the Year Award at the 2019 United Way Administrative Professional Breakfast this morning in Portland.

Claire is the first ever recipient of the award, which was introduced as a separate category alongside the top award of Administrative Professional of the Year.

Glenelg shire community services director Edith Farrell said the award was a testament to Claire’s ‘can do’ attitude and the value of council’s traineeship program.

“Claire is a particular success story for our organisation; she has transitioned from our traineeship program to a permanent employee, stepping up and taking on new tasks and roles that she has never done before. We are very proud of what she has achieved over the space of just two and a half years,” she said.

“On a day to day basis Claire manages and navigates a broad range of tasks with our Community Services unit, often within extremely tight timeframes, and does this with a calm and professional demeanour.

“She is an excellent innovator and will come to us with ideas when she notices that there could be a better way of doing things, and will always question when she is unsure.

“Most recently, Claire was successful in securing a temporary senior administration role, highlighting her outstanding administrative skills.

“On behalf of the organisation I congratulate Claire on being recognised as the 2019 Emerging Administrative Professional of the Year Award, we look forward to seeing her leadership skills continue to shine.”

Fellow council employee Kim Overall was also recognised at the Breakfast as one of the four nominees for the Administrative Professional of the Year Award.

The United Way Glenelg Administrative Professional Breakfast has been celebrated for ten years, recognising the crucial role that administrative professionals play in supporting and enhancing local businesses.
