MEDIA RELEASE - A Hole in My Genes author event

19 June 2019

Join south-west author and psychologist Dr Jodie Fleming at the Glenelg Libraries this July as she presents her debut book A Hole in My Genes, covering the journey from terrifying diagnosis to a cancer-free future.

The Dr Jodie Fleming A Hole in My Genes Author Event will take place on Wednesday 3 July from 5:30pm at the Portland Library, offering community members the chance to hear the challenges, insights and grief encountered during the pathway to recovery.

“In 2010, Jodie received the terrifying news that she had two primary breast cancers. This diagnosis became a frightening opportunity for her to practice what she preaches as the doctor becomes the patient,” said library and information services manager Yvette Parker.

“Jodie will discuss her experiences throughout treatment, surgery and recovery. In particular, she will discuss how she battled the world of cancer from the other side of the desk through drawing upon draw upon the psychological strategies she’d previously taught her clients.

“This Author Event will look at the human side of cancer, from the complicated grief and heartache to a future filled with promise. I encourage community members to come along to this free event and hear from one of our region’s leading psychologists.”

Dr Jodie Fleming is a clinical and health psychologist practicing in South West Victoria. A Hole in My Genes is her first book.
