MEDIA RELEASE - Take flight to the Glenelg Libraries

8 July 2019

Learn the secrets to suspense-building with journalist and author Michael McGuire as part of an Author Event at the Glenelg Libraries later this month.

Michael McGuire will visit the Portland Library on Wednesday 17 July from 5:30pm to discuss his second novel and fictional airport thriller, Flight Risk.

Flight Risk follows a former pilot turned intelligence officer as he attempts to discover the cause behind a string of international plane disappearances. His investigations reach a terrifying climax as he boards the plane marked as the next target, resulting in non-stop suspense to uncover the criminal mastermind before the plane goes down.

Library and Information Services Manager Yvette Parker said Flight Risk had launched with national success.

“Since its release Flight Risk has quickly earned critical acclaim, with reviewers describing it as ‘taking the airport thriller genre to a whole new level’,” she said.

“Lovers of crime and thrillers are invited to make the most of this exciting opportunity to hear from Michael and learn firsthand the art behind building suspense and what tricks and ploys are used to divert the reader.

“Thriller is one of our most borrowed genres for Glenelg Libraries members and we anticipate that this free author event will be popular amongst our readers.”

Michael McGuire is a former political advisor and journalist for The Australian, The Sunday Mail and The Advertiser. Flight Risk is his second novel following the release of his political satire Never a True Word in 2017.
