MEDIA RELEASE - Home grown actor returns to host gala awards

29 July 2019

Jackson Tozer

Home grown acting talent Jackson Tozer is returning home to host the Business and Tourism Award, warning no local is safe from his humour on Friday night, not even himself.

The actor, comedian and writer is recognised as one of Australia’s brightest new talents, featuring in top rating TV shows Five Bedrooms, Mr Black, and The Ex PM.

He also starred in the internationally acclaimed series Mr Inbetween (FX) which also received an Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts nomination.

His busy resume has seen him feature on top Australian TV commercials, including being the face of Sorbent toilet paper.

“You don’t have any auditions for sports cars or watches? No only toilet paper?”, he joked with agents when offered the role.
The Business and Tourism Awards gala awards dinner is a sell-out with Tozer looking forward to catching up with old friends as takes on the role of dinner host.

“It’s really humbling to be thought of and given the opportunity to come home and celebrate the local businesses that made my home shire what it was growing up,” he said.

“Some of my earliest insights into the acting world were doing voiceovers for local businesses owners on AceRadio."
Tozer warned he had a few funny local stories prepared for the celebration.

“I plan to be a little bit cheeky on the evening, as much as it terrifies my dad,” he mused.

“I like to write the most offensive jokes I can think of and test them on my parents … I’m never going to use them, but I like to see the stress it brings them.

“It’s like being back on your L plates driving again, except I have way more than 120 hours logged of stressing out my parents.”

The highly anticipated evening will see Tozer share the stage with acclaimed magician Dom Chambers from America’s Got Talent fame.

More than 20 million viewers have watched Mr Chambers’ YouTube videos which combine humour and charm for a modern take on magic.

A record total of 61 entries were received for the business awards, who will be vying for the overall title of Glenelg Shire Council Business of the Year at the sell-out dinner being held at the Portland Golf Club from 6pm Friday night.
