MEDIA RELEASE - Year of many achievements for Glenelg

23 October 2019

The Glenelg Shire Council has adopted its Annual Report, a report detailing its performance for the 2018/19 financial year.

The report is a complete overview of council activities over the past 12 months and includes sections on the council’s functions and role, financial performance, the structure of the organisation and the range of services provided.

In adopting the report at last night’s October council meeting, Mayor Cr. Anita Rank said it had been a very busy year with many highlights.

“The past twelve months have been busy and we have worked hard to consolidate our financial position and deliver projects for the benefit of the community,” she said.

“The report details our capital project spending, including major projects completed to improve facilities for our community and visitors, such as the Portland Library redevelopment, Heath Road upgrades and the Changing Places toilet facility at the Portland Foreshore.

“Further highlights over the past year have also included a commitment to sustainability, with LED street lighting upgrades, the completion of Casterton flood recovery works, including the redevelopment of the Island Park netball and tennis facilities and the rollout of Digital Glenelg, a new council service unit aimed at transforming the customer experience of interacting and transacting with council.

“We also delivered a budget within the State Government rate cap of 2.25 per cent and achieved an overall surplus of $5.3 million.”

In alignment with the four year Council Plan, the Annual Report breaks down Council’s performance into five key areas:
• Growing Glenelg - sustaining and growing a diverse economy;
• Connecting Glenelg - connecting people, places and spaces;
• Liveable Glenelg – creating an inclusive, healthy and sustainable community;
• Creative Glenelg – ensuring an inspired and forward-thinking community;
• Leading Glenelg - creating shared visions for the future.

The Annual Report is available on council’s website and a printed copy can be reviewed at customer service centres.
