MEDIA RELEASE - The Mik Maks headline New Year's Eve celebrations

17 December 2019

Regional Victoria’s biggest New Year’s Eve celebrations are doing it for the kids this summer with one of Australia’s leading children’s entertainment groups headlining the iconic event.

Portland’s New Year’s Eve foreshore celebrations are taking a family focus with the attraction of top performers The Mik Maks. Awarded the Best Kids Live Show in Australia at the What’s on 4 Kids Awards last year, the talented trio are set to headline early evening festivities on the Portland foreshore.

Born and bred in the Western district, The Mik Maks have been wowing their young audiences all over the country with their catchy country rock tunes and are looking forward to starring on the Portland foreshore stage.

Mayor Cr Anita Rank said council was proud to host a huge line-up of entertainers.

“Portland is well recognised for hosting one of regional Victoria’s best New Year’s Eve celebrations and this year is going to be bigger than ever,” she said.

“The Mik Maks are going to ensure our youngest revellers are entertained in the early evening, performing their much-loved high energy tracks which have amassed over 270,000,000 views across social media.

“Following The Mik Maks, we have a schedule of local and regional artists to continue on with the entertainment until midnight. Local bands Sleuth, DJ Chegs, MINT and Dean Outtram and Damon Yuill will prelude the exciting hours before the New Year, offering a variety of classic and contemporary covers.

“Finally, Hamilton-based band The Still Tree’s, who featured on Triple Js Unearthed, will take to the stage from 10pm playing right through as we countdown to 2020.”

Cr Rank confirmed that this year’s event will once again feature two firework displays, catering to all ages.

“There will be two fireworks displays; the first at 10pm followed by midnight, ensuring all eventgoers can enjoy the magic of New Year’s fireworks at a time that suits them.

“With children’s amusements on offer until 7pm there is something for everyone at regional Victoria’s biggest New Year’s street party.”
