| Volunteering is the backbone of all the communities that live, work and play in Glenelg Shire. It helps people to develop their own skills, connects citizens to those around them, and creates stronger, healthier, happier communities.
Council is committed to supporting volunteering in all its forms in the Shire:
• Volunteer Recognition Receptions in National Volunteers Week
• Glenelg Shire Volunteer Strategy
• Portland Volunteer Support Project – a project, supported by the State Government through the Department Planning and Community Development which has involved several key stakeholders in volunteering in Portland - Portland District Health, Glenelg Shire Council, Baclinks and Portland Neighbourhood House- in establishing a volunteer network for community organisations and groups in Portland that use volunteers in their work, in order to share resources, ideas, and to develop plans to deliver Volunteer Management training in the town. The project also supported individuals and organisations to use and add to the new online Victorian Volunteering Portal, www.volunteer.vic.gov.au, which is an online community, matching service and information resource for Victorian volunteers and volunteering organisations.
