29 May 2012
Community members are invited to join with a group of Portland organisations to celebrate World Environment Day 2012 with a public tree planting event.

The event will be held at Nun’s Beach on Saturday 2 June from 10am – 12 noon and is a follow up to last year’s World Environment Day event.

Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are invited to come along and lend a hand to help beautify the community space.

All materials and a free sausage sizzle will be provided for the volunteers.

Organisations partnering to hold the event include Glenelg Shire Council, Pacific Hydro, Portland Aluminium, Seawinds Nursery, Greening Australia, Bayview College, St John’s Lutheran School, Portland Coastal Cliffs Inc, Portland Sustainability Group and the Portland Young Professionals Network.

World Environment Day is celebrated annually and is a day of positive action for the environment.

The theme of World Environment Day 2012 is “Green Economy: Does it include you?”

People can contact Council’s Environmental Sustainability Officer on ph: 03 5522 2203 for further information.
