Engage! Youth Programs & Activites

Skittles Poster

The Glenelg Shire Council (GSC) has been successful in obtaining an Engage! youth inclusion grant from the State Government.

This grant was provided to deliver the Engage! project, which aims to increase:

• Connection between young people and their local communities
• Opportunities for youth to participate in activities that build their skills in leadership, knowledge and pathways
• Support networks and strong connections with friends, family and community

Providing youth engagement opportunities is vital to ensure GSC is responsive to the needs of local young people. To do this, we are supporting youth action groups to enable young people in the community to get involved in areas such as the arts, music performances, supporting LGBTIQ inclusion and civic engagement.

If you would like more information about Engage! or you would like to have your say please call Cathryn Walder on (03) 5522 2137, text 0400 151 447 or email

Portland Youth Advisory Group - Join now!

Youth Cafe 12 25 Poster

We are currently recruiting young people aged 12-25 across the Shire to sit on our Portland Youth Advisory Group (YAG)

The YAG shares the ideas, issues and voices of young people who live, work and study in Portland with Council, to help make our towns and communities more youth-friendly. So far, our Youth Advisory Group has put forward a Youth Charter to Council, which ensures young people are included in decision making, and put together Friday Chill, a National Youth Week event with local musos and food.

We are currently working on the following events and activities:
Youth Café 12:25
Friday Chills
SEA Change Portland
Outdoor Movies
Youth Hub

If you'd like to get involved please fill out the Expression of Interest Form or contact Cathryn Walder on 0400 151 447

The YAC is a combined Youth Advisory Group and FreeZa committee who will be responsible for organising events and activities, providing a youth voice for their community and working with Council on projects and planning.

The Friday Chills are being promoted as an example of the type of event YACs can plan and deliver in their towns. The Chills are free and local Dj Nathan Jennings will be playing, with art activities and pizza.
