Author Event - Jeremy Scott, A Long Journey from a Broken Heart - Portland Library
Glenelg Libraries welcomes traveller and author Jeremy Scott to share his amazing story of self-discovery The Long Road from a Broken Heart.

As a toddler, Jeremy suffered from a huge hole in his aorta valve and at just four years of age he underwent open heart surgery. Thirty four years later, on the 5 October 2011, Jeremy began a challenge of a life time, a 2½ year, 51,916km solo bicycle ride from London to New Zealand. As he pedalled his way around the planet, Jeremy covered more than enough distance to circumnavigate the earth.

While separate encounters with the Iranian and Filipino Mafia had Jeremy fearing for his life, it was the beautiful acts of kindness offered by strangers throughout the world that will forever warm his heart.

Jeremy is a recipient of the Australian Heart Foundation ‘Heart Hero Award’ and is an Ambassador for Waterline Challenge.

This incredible story highlights what anyone can achieve in life, if they are willing to take that first step.

6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
THE 2040 SCREENING
This special screening of 2040 on Friday 9th August, 6:00 pm at Showbiz Cinemas Portland!

2040 is a hybrid feature documentary that looks to the future, but is vitally important NOW! Award-winning director Damon Gameau (That Sugar Film) embarks on journey to explore what the future could look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them rapidly into the mainstream. Structured as a visual letter to his 4-year-old daughter, Damon blends traditional documentary with dramatised sequences and high-end visual effects to create a vision board of how these solutions could regenerate the world for future generations.
