Welcome to the Glenelg Shire Council

14 September 2017

Twilight Cinemas is taking its movie screen on the road for a regional pop-up tour next month, bringing Hollywood movies to our regional communities.

Glenelg Shire Council has partnered with the Portland-based cinema for the road show over a two week period in October featuring Casterton on Friday 13 October at Island Park, Dartmoor Recreation Reserve Saturday 14 October, and Heathmere Recreation Reserve on Friday 20 October.

A big street party is planned for Casterton’s Island Park celebrations, which is being hosted by the Casterton P & A Society, and will feature local markets, live music and activities for children.

Classic move Footrot Flats will be played on the evening, with Coonawarra wine available from Koonara, cider from the Cider Project plus other drink and food options.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said the event was based-on the popular Twilight Gardens pop-up cinema event hosted in the Portland Botanic Gardens earlier this year.

“The addition of the Portland Cinema to our shire has been a great boon for the region, providing a movie experience in our community meaning people aren’t travelling more than 100km to other centres to experience the latest blockbuster,” Cr Rank said.

“With the pop-up Twilight Gardens event being such a success it was decided that regional communities could benefit from the same opportunity. Each community is putting on their own celebration, highlighting their local produce and people, whist assisting to fundraise for an important project.

“This is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the new season, the finer weather and the longer days whilst seeing a great classic on the big screen.

“Bring a picnic rug, a chair and enjoy the hospitality of our welcoming regional towns.”
