MEDIA RELEASE - Hooked on Portland lures MasterChef's

oin renowned MasterChef’s Eliza Wilson and Sam Goodwin as they cook up a storm using local seafood this Australia Day long weekend in Portland.

The celebrity chefs are hosting a number of cooking demonstrations at the three day Hooked on Portland festival. The cooking identities will headline day two of the festivities on Saturday 27 January in the Foodie Marquee at the Portland Foreshore.

Glenelg Shire Council Mayor Cr Anita Rank said council was ecstatic to welcome the cooking identities to Portland to showcase the region’s world class clean and green fresh produce.

“We are lucky to have MasterChef’s return to Portland to demonstrate their cooking skills and teach guests at the festival how to best prepare and cook their favourite local seafood,” Cr Rank said.

“Eliza and Sam are looking forward to exploring the local area and sampling our local seafood varieties, including our famous tuna.”

Cr Rank said the cooking demonstrations were expected to be extremely popular, given Portland‘s profile as the country’s southern Bluefin tuna capital.

“The demonstrations will be a great opportunity for locals to learn how to best serve the fish being caught here in Portland, bridging the gap between the boat to the kitchen table,” she said.

“There is a fun activity to end the day with our MasterChef guests conducting a ‘mystery box challenge’ using flathead and leatherjacket. Guests will be able to sample the offerings – we can’t wait for this exciting showdown.”

The Foodie Marquee will also feature Reel Adventures co-host, Aaron ‘Red’ Habgood showing off his filleting techniques with display and a further cooking demonstration from local chefs on how to prepare squid and pipis.

The Foodie Marquee is only one component of the Hooked on Portland three-day festival, also offering harbour and port tours, kayaking, foreshore markets, children’s amusements, local food trucks and pop up bars, a large variety of live entertainment and more.
