MEDIA RELEASE - One month left to nominate your local heroes

21 September 2018

Don’t miss the chance to recognise your local heroes, with nominations for the 2019 Australia Day awards program closing soon.

Nominations for the awards program will officially close on 19 October 2018, leaving community members with 1 month to nominate those who have made an outstanding contribution to the shire.

Jane Ruge, daughter of 2018 Joint Citizen of the Year Phil Ruge, encouraged individuals to make the most of the nomination opportunity, describing the impact of the Australia Day award as life changing for both her father and her family.

“I am incredibly proud of my Dad and all that he has achieved for our local community. He continues to selflessly volunteer his time and efforts for a number of organisations and never expects any acknowledgement or reward - he truly embodies the term ‘community spirit’,” she said.

“It was so wonderful therefore to see his generosity and dedication officially recognised earlier this year when he received the Citizen of the Year award at the Australia Day event. It was such a humble moment and meant so much to my family to know that his achievements have truly made a difference to the lives of others.

“With only a month left to go for Australia Day awards nominations, I encourage other community members to nominate the hardworking volunteers that make our community great. The impact the award can have upon someone’s life cannot be underestimated.”

The Australia Day awards program seeks to recognise the outstanding contributions made by community groups and individuals. Recipients are announced and presented on Australia Day at events held throughout the shire.
