MEDIA RELEASE - The Go Set headline New Year's Eve celebrations

1 November 2018

Music lovers are invited to make their way to Portland this New Year’s Eve with Melbourne based folk/punk band The Go Set headlining a list of premier live entertainment for the biggest street party in regional Victoria.

The Go Set will perform at Portland’s annual New Year’s Eve on the Foreshore event, bringing their high energy performance style to help celebrate the start of the new calendar year.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said she anticipated strong crowds to ‘rock their way’ into 2019 for the popular council funded event.

“We are excited to announce The Go Set as the lead act for our iconic New Year’s Eve event. The Melbourne based band have a loyal following due to their infectious stage presence which gets everyone up dancing,” she said.

“Since 2003 the band has released six albums, consistently toured Australia and embarked on regular tours across the United Kingdom, Europe, New Zealand and Japan. They have also supported well-known bands such as The Living End and Flogging Molly and performed at major festivals - they are a huge drawcard and particularly popular with locals in our patch.”

Cr Rank said the night would appeal to all music enthusiasts, with a number of support acts also performing alongside The Go Set.

“New Year’s Eve will feature contemporary folk band The Settlement, who wowed audiences earlier this year at the inaugural Hooked on Portland festival, and local artist DJ Chegs, who proved popular with the crowd at last year’s event,” she said.

“With such a diverse range of free entertainment on offer right during the evening, Portland will once again be the New Year’s Eve destination of choice.”

Celebrations will take place on 31December 2018 from 5pm to 1am with Bentinck Street closed to traffic.
