MEDIA RELEASE - Provide your feedback on vision for Flinders Park

28 April 2021

Community members are invited to have their say on the future vision for one of Portland’s most versatile green spaces.

The draft Flinders Park Masterplan is now out for public feedback after being endorsed by Glenelg Shire Councillors at last night’s Council Meeting.

The draft document provides a comprehensive, long term plan for the park, encouraging flexible use for both formal and informal sport and activities.

“The vision for Flinders Park is to accommodate a wide range of active and passive recreation, in a well-maintained setting,” said Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank.

“Flinders Park acts a gateway green space; it is one of the first recreation venues you see upon entering Portland. Therefore, it is imperative that it remains inviting to encourage connection for both residents, tourists, and regional visitors.

“Improvements are listed to enhance accessibility and entry, as well as ensuring a visually pleasing environment.

“The draft Masterplan also outlines a commitment to provide a functional, multi-use space for all users of the community.
“This includes retaining the Park as a site for junior and regional sport, whilst making simple minor improvements to encourage active play opportunities for young families, such as revitalising unused spaces.”

Cr Chrissy Hawker thanked all those who were involved in the development of the draft document.

“Thank you to all of our stakeholders and residents who contributed to the draft Masterplan by providing their valuable feedback last year,” she said.

“We received 56 written submissions outlining a wide range of suggestions and ideas, which have helped to shape the draft vision for the Park.”

To view the draft Masterplan and provide feedback, visit the Your Say Glenelg website. Alternatively, hard copies are available for inspection at any Glenelg Shire Customer Service Centre.

Feedback closes Sunday 30 May 2021.
