MEDIA RELEASE - Council delivers $74K to the community

27 August 2021

Cash injections for hall upgrades, community events and sport development will be delivered in the latest round of Glenelg Shire Council’s Community Grants program.

A total of 31 shire-wide community not-for-profit groups and organisations shared in the latest funding round, valued at more than $74,000.

Among the beneficiaries were the Gorae West Public Hall & Recreation Committee Inc which received $1,000 for a kitchen upgrade, Portland Tourist Association received $5,000 for the creation of new visitor guides and Heywood Golf Club received $4,960 to develop plans for their Club House Redevelopment project.

The Digby Hall and Recreation Reserve will receive $1,750 for a new floor for their supper room, $1,000 will go to the Dartmoor & District P & A. Society for the Dartmoor Show and the Portland Yacht Club will receive $5,000 for a new training safety vessel.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said Council was proud to provide ongoing support to the shire’s not-for-profit organisations and hardworking volunteers.

“These grants can be the difference to these hard-working volunteers realising their project goals, particularly as they navigate the difficult economic climate. Whilst their fundraising efforts are scaled back due to current gathering restrictions, these funds provide security to turn their plans into a reality,” she said.

“Importantly all money delivered through our grants program will be injected straight back into the local economy, supporting not just our community groups, but local businesses and tradespeople.

“I congratulate all of our recipients and I look forward to seeing the impact these grants have upon the broad sectors of our community and across all corners of our Shire.”

An official Community Grants presentation ceremony will take place at a later date.
