C82 – Red-tailed Black Cockatoo

Environmental Significance Overlay 3 – South Eastern Red-tailed Black Cockatoo Habitat Areas

Amendment C82 to the Glenelg Planning Scheme was gazetted on Thursday 3 May 2018.

The amendment revised Schedule 3 to the Environmental Significance Overlay (ESO3) and increased the coverage of ESO3 to include additional South-eastern Red-tailed black cockatoo (SeRtBC) habitat in the Shire.

ESO3 requires that a planning permit be obtained to remove, lop or destroy SeRtBC habitat on land covered by the schedule, including:

• Brown or Desert Stringybark with a trunk diameter greater than 30 centimetres at 1.3 metre above ground level; and

• Hollow bearing Eucalyptus tree with a trunk diameter of greater than 40 centimetres at 1.3 metres above ground level.

If a permit is granted to remove, destroy or lop SeRtBC habitat, an applicant is required to offset this loss with the planting or recruitment of vegetation of equal value. Other protection measures may also be considered.

Refer to the Glenelg Planning Scheme for a copy of ESO3 which sets out the relevant permit requirements, exemptions, decision guidelines and offset measures. Click here for a link to ESO3.
