Welcome to the Glenelg Shire Council

MEDIA RELEASE - Council welcomes new building services contacts

7 July 2017

Glenelg Shire residents will have a new point of contact for all building enquiries following the appointment of council’s new municipal building surveyor.

Portland based building stalwart Mr Don Sherwell has officially commenced as council’s municipal building surveyor, working to monitor and process all building requests and enquiries such as home alterations and change of building uses.

Mr Sherwell will also be supported by a full-time building inspector to offer efficiency in service. During the interim recruitment process for the inspector role council will utilise external resources to ensure a smooth transition for all customers.

Glenelg Shire Council Corporate Services director Karena Prevett said the new building team would continue to uphold high quality service standards.

“I take this opportunity to formally welcome Mr Sherwell to council as the new municipal building surveyor – a stalwart of the building industry,” she said.

“Mr Sherwell has more than 50 years of experience in the building industry and his knowledge and expertise will be highly valued by residents.”

Mrs Prevett said the short handover period would provide no delays for customers.

“Community members are to be assured that all services will still be available and all applications and permits will continue to be processed and issued,” she said.

“Whether you are looking for a permit for a new house or a new verandah, you will still be able to access the relevant information in a timely manner.”

Appointments can be made with Mr Sherwell on Tuesdays and Wednesdays by contacting the building services team on 5522 2216 or via email
