MEDIA RELEASE - Travel around the world in 80 Days

12 September 2017

Get set to battle typhoons, trains and the furthest reaches of your imagination as part of an upcoming performance at the Portland Arts Centre.

The Australian stage adaptation of Around the World the World in 80 Days will be hosted by the Portland Arts Centre on Wednesday 20 September at 7:30pm.

This family friendly production, based on Jules Verne’s iconic novel of the same name, features well known Australian actor Ian Stenlake and Helpmann award winning actress Sharon Millerchip in leading roles.

The show follows the story of the ambitious Phileas Flogg, who sets out to win an outrageous bet by circling the globe in an unheard-of 80 days.

Flogg will have to battle time, the relentless Scotland Yard detectives at his heels and survive the utterly fantastic adventures across the globe to win the bet.

Ellis Productions Producer Helen Ellis said the show would offer a thrilling and imaginative spin on the classic tale, transporting attendees to London and back from the comfort of their seats.

"We are delighted to be producing the Australian premiere of this new adaptation of a classic story told in a completely unexpected way,” she said.

“Audiences are going to be taken on an extraordinary trip around the globe without ever leaving the theatre.

“Families in the Glenelg Shire are set for a night of comic surprises and adventure this Wednesday at the Portland Arts Centre. The cast and crew are looking forward to their next stop at Portland as part of their national tour.”

Tickets are available for the Around the World in 80 Days performance via or by calling 5522 2263. Family packages are also available.

Parents and families are advised that the show is recommended for children of ages seven and above.
