MEDIA RELEASE - Beat the boredom this spring with craft, science and movies

Friday 15th September

School aged children are invited to let their imagination run wild this spring as part of the Glenelg Shire Spring School Holiday Program.

The free program, which will run from during the 23 September – 7 October, will feature popular events such as a movie night and a pool party, as well as a number of new activities including green thumb planting and circuit creator sessions.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said the program continued to cater for all ages and interest levels.

“With a wide variety of games, workshops and events, there is bound be something get the kids away from the screens and off the couch this spring,” she said.

“New to the program these holidays is green thumb planting, which will see Casterton kids making use of the spring gardening season to plant seeds into eggshells to make a crazy figure.

“Also new to the program is an exciting history challenge titled Inspector Relic. Hosted by the Glenelg Arts team this unique event will put young budding historians to the test - we can’t give away too much to spoil the mystery.”

Cr Rank said that council was proud to deliver the free shire-wide program.

“This program provides an equal opportunity for all families to access quality entertainment close to home,” she said.

“It’s often hard to keep the kids entertained over the break without spending hundreds of dollars. These activities are fun, local and won’t hurt the budget.”

The School Holiday Program is open to Glenelg Shire school aged children up to year eight.

Bookings open from 9 am on 18 September. Numbers will be limited for many activities so families are advised to secure their place to avoid disappointment. Bookings can be made by calling 1300 GLENELG.

The School Holiday Program is currently being delivered to all shire schools and hard copies can be collected from council’s Customer Service Centres and libraries.
