MEDIA RELEASE - List your event on council's new promotional calendar

10 October 2017

Glenelg Shire Council’s new quarterly events calendar is helping to promote the region’s busy schedule of activities to the growing visitor market.

Businesses, clubs and groups coordinating events are urged to register for the free quarterly brochure at the shire’s Visitor Information Centres (VIC) or via the council website www.glenelg.vic.gov.au/calendar.

Glenelg Shire Council Mayor Cr Anita Rank said the easy-to-read A3 guide included all community events in the shire for the season and was widely distributed to ensure mass market consumption.

“The new summer event guide is due for release in late November in readiness for the holiday season. I strongly urge anyone who will be hosting an event over this period, from December to February, ensure it is registered so they receive plenty of promotion,” Cr Rank said.

“Glenelg Shire is renowned for its busy events schedule and this guide is just another added promotion, on top of our digital presence, to promote our many events and festivals.

“The spring calendar featured everything from car rally’s, pop-up cinema events to markets – anything that attracts visitors to the region will be added.”

Cr Rank said the region’s VIC network shared the event calendar as an easy resource for visitors to map their stay in the area.

She said it was released at the start of each new season in readiness for December, March, June and September.

“It doesn’t matter whether your event is brand new, or been running for years, we want to ensure it is included in this resource so as many people as possible are aware it is on,” she said.

“Council will also promote your event on our regular radio interview spot on Ace Radio so the public can ensure they pencil it into their diary.

“The launch of our new I am Portland tourism website in the coming weeks will further strengthen the marketing we can provide to our local volunteers and groups who work tirelessly to coordinate and promote these events.”

To register your event visit www.glenelg.vic.gov.au/calendar and follow the listing guide. Alternatively contact the Portland VIC on 5522 2130, Casterton VIC on 5581 2070 or Nelson VIC on (08) 87384051 and speak to a staff member for assistance to add your event.
