MEDIA RELEASE - Island Park Upgrades to be Officially Unveiled to the Community

24 November 2017

Casterton’s sporting community is set to enter 2018 with a new and improved facility, positioning Island Park as a premier sporting precinct.

The construction of the Island Park Netball Tennis Clubrooms Project is now complete, with an official opening to take place on Friday 8 December at 4pm to unveil the redeveloped $650,000 facility to the public.

Council received a $100,000 Female Friendly Facilities Grant from the State Government to construct the new netball tennis clubroom which includes separate change area for umpires and state-of-the-art canteen and club kitchen.

Casterton Sandford Football Netball Club also contributed $20,000 towards the development of the facility.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said the new clubrooms were a testament to the resilience of the Casterton community, who managed to continue operations with limited resources after the devastation of the spring floods in 2016.

“It is with great pleasure that we are able to officially open this brand new facility to the people of Casterton,” she said.

“Floodwaters in September 2016 caused extensive damage to the sporting clubrooms, prompting the need to redesign the facility to withstand any future flooding event. Therefore a new design was drawn up, raising the facility above ground level, allowing floodwaters to flow underneath the building if a future event is to occur.

“It is exciting to see these modern clubrooms ready for use and we thank the members of the Casterton Sandford Football Netball Club for their generous contribution towards the project.

“Casterton’s sporting community will now have access to a national standard facility which will assist in attracting sporting events to Island Park into the future.

“I encourage all interested community members to come along to the official opening to celebrate this strong and resilient sporting community. Let’s hope it generates many premiership cups into the future.”

The opening of the Island Park Netball Tennis Clubrooms Project will coincide with the Casterton Outdoor Swimming Pool launch. A tour of the pool upgrades will follow the opening of the sporting clubrooms.
