MEDIA RELEASE - Library2Go Outreach Service to resume original schedule

28 March 2018

The Glenelg Libraries Library2Go Outreach Service will return to its former visiting schedule following the end of a 12 month trial program.

Councillors last night decided against continuing the trial visits to Narrawong and Nelson at the March Ordinary Council Meeting, voting to instead resume the service as per the original schedule and provide three-weekly visits to the townships of Dartmoor, Digby and Merino.

Library and Information Services Manager Yvette Parker said decision followed low take up from the Narrawong and Nelson communities during the trial program.

“During April 2017 to December 2017, the Library2Go Outreach Service attracted almost 200 visitors in the towns of Dartmoor, Merino or Digby, continuing to be a well utilised and worthwhile service in these remote communities,” she said.

“However the same level of interest was not reflected in the Narrawong and Nelson townships, with only 33 community members utilising the service during the trial period.

“Unfortunately the support is just not strong enough to make these trial visits part of our permanent schedule.”

Ms Parker reminded library members that a full suite of services would still be available via the Glenelg Libraries website.

“Residents in Narrawong and Nelson can access their local library from the comfort of their very own homes, with the Glenelg Libraries website offering a wealth of information, resources and activities,” she said.

“From e-Books to movies, there is something that everyone can enjoy on our website and the best part is it can all be accessed free of charge if you are a Glenelg Libraries member.”

The Library2Go will cease visits to Narrawong and Nelson from May 2018.
