The Western Bulldogs Leadership Project has returned to the Glenelg Shire for 2018, welcoming its newest cohort for this year’s program at a welcome and orientation ceremony.

Last night 16 motivated teenagers were officially inducted into the popular youth leadership program that is administered by the Western Bulldogs Football Club with support from the Glenelg Shire Council.

This year’s participants include Portland’s Ally Bamford, Paije Rose-Maher, Cassidy Beal and Lachie Warburton and Narrawong’s Nakaya Tashoff, Zahn Beattie, Jade Beattie, Alexander Sealey and Thomas Drew.

Casterton’s Thomas Anderson, Madison Mutch, Maisie Sheahan have also been inducted alongside Heywood’s Tarli Kerr, Maddison Argall, Jack Fadersen, Cooper Barclay.

Over a period of six months the participants will complete 10 workshops and two weekend camps in Melbourne and Anglesea, learning important leadership skills such as emotional intelligence, public speaking and social responsibility.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said the program had quickly become iconic amongst local youth.

“Congratulations to our aspiring young leaders who have taken on the challenge of completing this rewarding and worthwhile program,” she said.

“The Leadership Project, which has been running for four years in our shire, is now a recognisable brand thanks to the once in a lifetime opportunities it provides.

“Over the course of the intensive six month program participants will build their capacities in teamwork, communication, goal setting and resilience from recognisable and respected leaders.

“I look forward to seeing the positive and long lasting contributions these young people will make in the years to come as future leaders of our community.”

The first workshop is a Melbourne camp next weekend where participants will develop their communication and team work skills, as well as attending a Western Bulldogs AFL match and hearing from inspirational guest speakers.
