MEDIA RELEASE - Join the colour run craze and celebrate youth week

10 April 2018

Be part of the happiest 2000 metres on the planet as part of the inaugural Victorian Youth Week celebrations in the Glenelg Shire.

Young people are invited to celebrate the annual week-long festivities from Friday 13 April to Sunday 22 April with a range of local events on offer including a youth inspired 2km colour run in Portland.

People are invited to put on a white t shirt and join the fun and hilarity of the popular colour run as the youth team lead participants across a winding course from the Portland Youth Activity Space around the foreshore, spraying runners with unexpected burst of coloured powder.

For those wanting a slower pace, a pop-up cinema night is planned in the Portland Botanic Gardens on Friday 20 April with the screening of locally produced films alongside Hollywood inspirational hit Soul Surfer, which details the life of surfing champion Bethany Hamilton.

Glenelg Shire youth development officer Cathryn Walder said Victorian Youth Week activities would highlight the important role young people played in the local community.

“There is something to cater for all tastes and abilities in Glenelg Shire this Youth Week with another great line-up of events for people to enjoy,” Ms Walder said.

“Council was successful in receiving a grant through the Department of Health and Human Services to provide this great range of activities during the state-wide celebration ensuring local youth were provided with the same access to events like their city counterparts.

“There is only one guideline to attend our Youth Week activities and that is that all participants come to have fun – this is what Youth Week is all about.”

Youth Week events are available for people aged 12 to 25 years old living in the Glenelg Shire.
