MEDIA RELEASE - Casterton pool to receive further upgrades in time for summer

30 August 2018

Glenelg Shire Councillor Karen Stephen and CEO Greg Burgoyne speaking with construction worker Leigh Killey about the progress of works underway at the Casterton Memorial Swimming Pool.

Further works on Casterton’s Memorial Swimming Pool have begun with improvements to the recreation facility to be completed in time for peak summer period.

The $50,000 upgrade will involve replacement of the facilities roof and the installation of an upgraded solar system to improve the building’s environmental footprint and ensure stability of the water temperature to enhance usage.

These works will improve the Island Park facility that received an $850,000 pool refurbishment last year and underwent $150,000 change rooms, kiosk, shed and outdoor area upgrades in 2016.

Glenelg Shire councillor Karen Stephens said the latest project aimed to improve one of the shire’s most popular recreation facilities and ensure it was equipped for future use.

“This is a community minded town project that will see a brand new roof installed, as well as a new solar system, which will ensure the building remains energy efficient and continues to cut energy use costs,” Cr Stephens said.

“The project will be completed in time for the change of season when residents are looking to enjoy the outdoor swimming pool in the warmer months.

“We are hoping that these upgrades will mean that the facility can run smoothly in the future and that the community can enjoy the pool for many years to come.”

The Memorial Swimming Pool will be open at the beginning of December until late March, excluding Christmas Day.
