MEDIA RELEASE - Final chance for youth to win unique art competition

10 September 2018

Time is running out for young people in the Glenelg Shire to showcase their artistic flair and secure a slice of more than $1000 in prize money as part of a creative competition to promote youth mental health.

The Live4Life Glenelg ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ Competition will officially close for submissions on 21 September, providing youth with less than two weeks to produce their potentially winning entries.

The competition invites year eight students from across the shire to submit their own interpretation of the Live4Life Glenelg2018 theme ‘Perfectly Imperfect’. The submission can fall under one of the three categories - photography, multimedia and other (which may include for poems, songs, pictures, paintings, textile artworks or any other medium).

Live4Life Glenelg crew member Elly Whitehead encouraged fellow youth to consider how the theme best represents and promotes positive mental health.

“Think about what Perfectly Imperfect means to you. It may mean your flaws make you who you are or that your individual differences set you aside from others but makes you no less an important person - we have left the theme open for your own unique interpretation,” she said.

“Make the most of the competition and have fun with your entry, invite your friends, family and community to get involved and think about things that make you or your life perfectly imperfect.

“I look forward to seeing what creative entries we receive in the last remaining weeks of the competition.”

Miss Whitehead reminded students of the substantial cash prizes on offer for winning entries.

“Thanks to the generous support of the Port of Portland, entrants will be vying for $1,000 worth of prizes,” she said.

“Winning entries will be judged by the Live4Life Glenelg Crew and there will be 11 winners in total – ranging from individual winners, group winner, category winners and crew’s choice winners.”

The Live4Life Competition is open to year eight students from Portland Secondary College, Bayview College, Heywood District Secondary College, Casterton Secondary College and VCAL students from Portland Re-Engagement Centre and South West Institute of TAFE Portland Campus.

All entries must include the Live4Life logo and a 50 words or less personal description of the theme ‘Perfectly Imperfect’

All entries need to be received electronically and supported by a registration form.
