2019 Hooked on Portland Festival

Portland will be the events capital this January long weekend as the city plays host to the Hooked on Portland festival, which was successfully launched in 2018 to a crowd of more than 10,000 people.


The festival, hosted in partnership with Council and Victorian Fisheries Authority will feature some of Australia’s best up and coming musical performers, such as ASTA and 19Twenty, and celebrity chef Paul West.

There will be entertainment and activities for all ages including a national skate competition, fishing clinics and competition, children’s amusements, market stalls, pop up bar, food trucks and much more.

Pimms & Pizza Lido Laneway

Kick off Hooked on Portland by joining us at lido larder laneway Friday January 25 from 5:30pm for Pimms & Pizza. All money raised will fundraise towards PFNCC resurfacing their netball courts!

All food & drinks only $5! Accompanied by live music from Dean Outtram & Damon Yuill.

Cooking demonstrations with Paul West

Paul West

Renowned chef and sustainability advocate Paul West of River Cottage Australia fame will headline the food and lifestyle element of the Hooked on Portland festival.

West will provide cooking demonstrations using local produce and discuss the importance of sustainability and supporting regional suppliers as part of the ‘Sustainability Talks’ series. West will be joined by industry experts to explore the regional food trail in south west Victoria and to provide insights into how community members can enjoy the farm to plate experience.

Longest Lunch

Join Paul West from River Cottage Australia and Dru Reschke from Koonara Wines on Sunday 27 January for a taste sensation not to be missed.

As part of Hooked on Portland, the Henty Food Producers Group, in conjunction with Clock by the Bay, will host the Longest Lunch, for more information and updates, follow the event of Facebook at Hooked on Portland - Longest Lunch.

Skateboarding Competition & Sports Clinic

SKATE COMPETITION
Portland Skate Park to hold a skate, scooter, and BMX competition as part of the free Hooked on Portland festival this January long weekend.

The Skate Park League competitions are community based grass-roots events focused on embracing skate park culture and bringing the community together.

All competitors will go in the draw to win one of our raffled off prizes, encouraging participation and ensuring everyone has an even chance to win a prize!

The competition will be run in three heats on Saturday January 26 2019:

Scooter 2:00pm - 3:00pm (14 & Under, 15 & Over)
BMX 3:45pm -4:30pm (14 & Under, 15 & Over)
Skate 6:00pm -8:00pm (12 & Under, 14 & Under, Open Male, Open Female)

SPORTING CLINICS
Learn, develop and showcase your sporting skills with FREE sporting clinics at Hooked on Portland!

Skate Clinics: 11:30am and 1:00pm

Netball Clinics: 11am - 12pm

Football Clinics: 11am-12pm

Cricket Clinics: 1pm-3pm

Basketball Clinics: 3pm-4pm

Registrations occurring on the day, opening 15 minutes before each clinic.

Fishing competition and clinics

Fishing clinics will be on offer to inspire the youngest anglers.

FISHING COMPETITION

Recreational fishers will have the opportunity to reel in a winning catch as part of the Hooked on Portland fishing competition, with the land and sea based competition running from 6am on Saturday through to 2pm on Sunday.

Open to both adult and junior anglers, the competition includes six species; kingfish, snapper, whiting, gummy, salmon and tuna, with cash prizes of up to $250 for the heaviest catch in each species and age category.

Entry is $10 per adult and $5 for juniors with forms now available for collection at Compleat Angler, Portland Bait and Tackle or the Portland Visitor Information Centre. Or download the registration form here.

FISHING CLINICS

Novice and first time anglers will also have the chance to learn expert fishing techniques and tricks in the Victorian Fisheries Authority free fishing clinics held throughout the day. The fishing clinics will teach community members how to cast, tie knots and what to do with a fish when caught.
